It was truly a wonderful experience to once again participate in this annual event! A big Thank You to MOWA for hosting this fantastic event.
This year I chose to do an interpretation of Charles Thwaites “Patterns in Black and White” in holiday style. I used florals, vases, and candle sticks to reveal textures, shapes and contrast. Classy and contemporary!

Some of you could not make it to my presentation at MOWA. Unfortunately, they did not record any of the presentations during the event. The camera was only used to project images on the screen for the people in back to see.

What an exciting weekend! In addition to participating in Art In Bloom, I designed an ensemble for the Beauty In Bloom Floral Fashion Show! It was absolutely exhilarating to see my fashion design idea come to fruition!
A lot of planning and hard work went into this, including the mechanical fluttering of the butterfly wings. I have my brother Tom Bialzik’s engineering skills to thank for that!
Both my brother and my sister Pamela Reed helped me for hours making “tufts” of greenery to look like feathers. They are professionals now! Pam was by my side every step of the way with gluing flowers and leaves to the dress and wings, as well as helping with the model’s hair, since she is so talented at styling! My sister in law, Cindy Bialzik was very helpful backstage, prepping flowers and expediting tasks!
This was the first runway fashion show for my gorgeous model, Brittney Hillmer. She certainly was a beautiful butterfly!

Since the actual artwork has been pulled from the exhibit of Art In Bloom 2018, I wanted to share with you, my inspiration behind the piece and also share photos I took when studying the piece.
The dynamism portrayed in “Kant” and the rings in the armillary globe depicting revolution and turning point, instantly inspire my ideas. I manipulated a variety of leaves to emulate the revolutions in the globe, and calla lilies and grasses mimic the motion of Kant’s arms, as well as the over all turning point of the Age of Enlightenment. In the description of the artist’s work, it made mention that the coat that Kant is wearing is depicting textiles from Africa during this time. The pin-cushion protea are native to South Africa, and emulate the pattern in the coat (along with the dark callas). My design stands atop stacked books, to represent the age of knowledge based on experiential facts and dismisses superstitions.
Much to my dismay, only one week before Art In Bloom, I received a call from the Milwaukee Art Museum that the piece of art I am emulating will be taken off exhibit. The curator does not want to wait a week and a half, until the event is done, to repair damage to some fabric in the piece. I am STILL emulating this piece of art, however, they will enlarge an image of it, and place my design next to it. Hopefully, my interpretation will still be appreciated.
